Param Bhavsar, 21, of Philadelphia, is a senior Temple University student majoring in Media Studies and Production. When he is not in school and studying for classes, Bhavsar is pursuing his passions and dreams of becoming a famous deejay, but not only nationally, internationally as well. Many of his fans and colleagues from the deejay world know him as DJ Ram B. However, his friends only know him as Ram.

Bhavsar is from central New Jersey and is a first-generation Indian-American who comes from a family with an extensive musical background.

“My sister was in the choir, my mom sang, so music was always a part of my life,” says Bhavsar.

Due to Bhavsar being heavily influenced by music at an early age, he started playing trumpet and piano, which lead him to create musical remixes of his favorite songs with household objects from his home. Even though music was apart of his and his family lives, deejaying wasn’t.

His family was not familiar with the musical environment of being a deejay, so in the beginning, they were not supportive of Bhavsar wanting to get a career in the music industry as a deejay.

“When I started deejaying in 9th grade, my parents hated it, but then they came to terms with it. My mom said, ‘Hey, if you want to do this, you have to keep your grades up’,” says Bhavsar.

Bhavsar knew he had to keep his grades up for his parents in order to keep pursuing a career as a deejay.

“This semester I’m more focused on school work and organizing myself, like 6 hours a week. Usually, I’m like there an hour a day at the tech center studying and working on school stuff,” says Bhavsar.

However, while he is working on school, at the same time, he is researching music and listening to music in the background, when he is studying at Temple University Tech Center. He is trying to balance his life as a student and a full-time deejay.

Joshua Haq, 23, of Philadelphia is one of Bhavsar closest friend and also his Big in their fraternity. Haq saw how Bhavsar grew from being a student to a deejay the first time day met.

“When Ram was up and coming, I think he was hungry and got every gig. He booked himself in every gig possible to help him build up his name, brand, and image. However, now since he is performing in big name and huge events, he now is selective with what show he wants to do or not, so he focuses more on school than he was before,” says Haq.

After being in this fast pace business for 4 years, Bhavsar finally learned how to balance his love for deejaying while being committed to school; even though it took him awhile get there, it was worth it to make his parents proud.
